I have worked in franchise development for 20 years and also been a franchisee of a couple of different brands. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering business ownership as a way to change their lives or improve their asset (time and money) position. The Franchise MBA breaks the investigation process down into an easily understandable "journey" with a clear beginning, middle, and end. It also does a great job of addressing some of the stumbling blocks that some people encounter. By addressing them so clearly, they are no longer stumbling blocks. Simply parts of the journey of the investigation into business ownership and independence from an employer.
Having been part of a franchise system for nearly thirty years and an owner for twenty years, this book, BY FAR, is the best information ever published! Nick Neonakis cuts to the chase, addresses each and every issue, breaks the process down into baby steps and presents this most valuable information necessary to make the decision of franchising and how to pick your business partner. He weighs the pros and cons and gets inside of your head to assist in your choice considering lifestyle, income, geographics, demographics and exit plan. For most people business ownership is a daunting and challenging task. Nick does an outstanding job of going through the process of discovery and helping prospects understand what should be done to successfully find the right franchise for them.
I have read or skimmed almost every book out there on franchising. The Franchise MBA is the best by a very wide margin. Neonakis covers everything I wanted to know about searching for a franchise: understanding different franchise models, how to conduct due diligence, how to get bank financing, and all the legal and financial issues. Each chapter starts with a very engaging narrative story and the book is an easy read. It also explains the emotional and psychological issues in looking for a franchise. This is one of the top 10 business books I've ever read period, and easily the best 20 bucks I spent in my franchise search.
Good introduction to franchising and helpful reference source for secondary resources. The book was very easy to read - possibly too easy - but on the whole I got what I wanted out of it, and the writer was kind enough to call me personally to answer a question I had posted on his web page.
It's a very good book. But tje graphs and charts are all messed up and unreadable in Kindle version:(
The best part of this book is that it starts with asking you to know yourself better. I have a deeper understanding now where I stand when it comes to the entrepreneur vs. employee thing because of this book.Also, I was half-expecting a hard-sell on the concept of franchising, but was pleasantly surprised that Mr. Neonakis didn't go down that path.
