I've read several books on grief after losing my sweet brother to suicide. It absolutely wrecked me. This is one of the best books I read. It's important to do the journal assignments. I'm so sorry that you are even reading reviews on books on grief & that you have had loss in your life. There is life after loss & joy after the mourning but it's not an easy journey. The one thing I wish she went a little more info is that the relationship with the one you lost is still there. She is big on letting go and that is important but so is honoring the relationship you have with the person you lost & learning how to savor the love & the great memories you still have for the one you lost. They aren't here physically but nothing changes the love you have for each other.

God made me aware of my food issues 7 years ago, but I continued to struggle. My daughter recently showed me this book while laughing and it made me sad that she thought of me based upon the cover photo. This book was a breakthrough for me because it opened my eyes to the sin of gluttony. I had never NAMED my sin, repented and asked for God's Forgiveness. Through this act HE has helped me daily to overcome my long time addiction to food. Thankful for this little book as a great support tool that is loaded with wonderful Scripture!!

I cannot say enough good about this author's books. Where the psychologist leaves off, God begins. This author combines counseling and Jesus Christ. Could there be a better combination? ....... Nope

I read this book after an experience in which I was deeply hurt by rejection. This book provided comfort and a much needed perspective as to why rejection is experienced. I also appreciated how everything was viewed from scripture from the Bible. I will definitely be reading more of June Hunt’s books and will recommend them to people going through difficult times or just wanting to grow.

About the Author

Life began for Ivan in Piapot, Saskatchewan, the fourth son and sixth child of the village blacksmith, Art Jesperson. After his family moved to British Columbia, he went to sea at 15 and sailed coastal and deeps ships from Victoria, Vancouver and Montreal. After some time he was ordained into The United Church of Canada and sent to Newfoundland on his first pastoral charge. Rev. Ivan Jesperson arrived Newfoundland 1968 as clergyman for United Church on Fogo Island. There he compiled recipes of Newfoundland and Labrador in a cookbook entitled Fat-Back & Molasses. He also published an island newsletter entitled The Fogo Island Profile. Moving to St. John's in 1972 he continued pastoral ministry in Wesley United Church until 1975 when he began Jesperson Printing & Publishing. Jesperson left Newfoundland in 1987 and went on to the world of desktop publishing in Toronto and Ottawa. Retiring from business in 1992, he re-entered pastoral work of The United Church of Canada and served Aylwin Pastoral Charge in Kazabazua, Quebec until his retirement in 2000. Since retirement he has returned to British Columbia and lives in Victoria with his wife Mollie.

This is a beautiful book filled with many beautiful photographs of the restoration process. For these, the book should be praised and deserves a place on the bookshelf of anyone interested in 275s or Ferrari restoration in general. Furthermore, there are very few books about such restorations and so for that also, the book should be praised.However, and this is the reason I give it fours stars and not five, this book has provides very little insight. Anyone with a fleeting knowledge of the 275 and its variants will learn nothing from the initial pages. Instead there are multiple quotes from other Ferrari books; all of which I have. I count only 8 pages of text on the restoration itself which was pretty disappointing to me. Those 8 pages also felt as if they were dictated via a a quick phone call made some time after the restoration was completed.The answer is maybe on page 15: "I was unable to go to Bruce's shop during the restoration so he just sent me pictures of the work". This perhaps explains why the book is devoid of significant narrative about the restoration.

WONDERFUL book - highly recommend

This car is fascinating to me, and the detailed de-construction photos are extremely helpful in understanding its construction.

What fun it was to drive I will never forget passing a Maine State Policeman doing over 150 on the Maine Turnpike.

Thank you for writing this book. I use to believe the pre-trib false doctrine years ago. Then I started reading my bible.

If you currently believe in the pre-Tribulation teaching, but have an open mind – you need to read this book. Much of the Christian Church seems to have fallen for the deception that is the pre-Tribulation rapture teaching. Jesus warned us to watch out that no one deceived us (Matthew 24:4). Yet we see that many Christians may be left unprepared to face the coming tribulation, because they are caught up in the belief that Christians will be caught up in a secret rapture, prior to the Tribulation and the appearance of the Antichrist.Brown and Keener begin by describing their personal journeys from this belief to their understanding of what the Bible actually teaches about the return of Jesus. They explain that proponents of the pre-tribulation theory have to add to the scriptures to make it say what they claim – that no Bible verses explicitly state their claims. Whereas, plain reading of the scriptures states that the rapture only occurs when Jesus returns in the Second Coming and that we are caught up in the clouds to meet Him, as He approaches the earth, with all the tribes of Earth able to see His approach. Brown and Keener also explain that Christians in many countries have already been seeing persecution and even martyrdom and they contrast that with the Western Church expecting to be rescued before serious persecution comes to the Western Church. In their book they are careful to refrain from divisiveness with those that hold to the pre-tribulation position. It’s sad to see some notable Christians, who hold to pre-Tribulation, attacking those that differ with them. It should not divide us. However, I see great danger in the belief, as many Christians stand to be deceived by an Antichrist they were never expecting to encounter – with him deceiving, if possible, even the elect (Matthew 24:24).And sadly, much of the Church has fallen to erroneous beliefs such as the pre-Tribulation teaching. Indeed, many subscribe to believing that Israel is left behind, to face the Antichrist alone – the time of Jacob’s Trouble (Jeremiah 30:7) – whilst the Church is in Heaven with Jesus. That the Church escapes persecution and that Israel is left to face the Antichrist alone is not supported in the Bible and in fact the opposite is taught – see Revelation 13 as an example. This appears to be an insidious form of antisemitism. God has not abandoned His people (Psalm 94:14 and Romans 11:2). Joel 3 describes the reason for the Second Coming - God will judge the nations for dispersing His people – His Heritage Israel amongst the nations and for diving His land.Brown and Keener go on to explain in detail the flaws in the pre-Tribulation claims and they finish their excellent book by describing how Christians can face the Tribulation – reminding us that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and challenging us to live fully committed to Christ. If we abide in His Word (and His word alone), we will be His disciples indeed, And we will know the truth and the truth will set us free (John 8:31-33).

I , like both the authors, was saved and first taught Scriptures in a church that was dispensational and pretrib. All my churches since have been pre-trib. When I changed position 3 decades ago, I told my pastor and he disagreed, but allowed me the position of difference. I have not ever gone back. This book is not what I expected. I thought it would be more like a commentary, but this is much more accessible than a scholarly tome would be. And much more personal.I think all believers who adhere to pre-trib should simply read ALl the Bible, all relevant eschatological scriptures, and do it without the lens of pre-trib teaching, without dispensationalism, without anything but asking God to see with fresh eyes. It should be revelatory, as it was for these two men of God, teachers, scholars.The book guides you, in easy language, to understand what the early and longtime position on the "catching up" to be with the Lord has been. Not since 1800s, but since 00s and 100s and onward. While I don't agree with everything I've read so far in the book (I'm well into it), I know that pre-trib does not hold up without some rather flexible twisting about of context.When I was first saved, the passage in 2 Thessalonians did startle me as a teen. It made me think pretrib didn't fit, but I heard the discussions and just assumed, "What do I know? I'm new here." But I'm no longer new. I"ve read the church Fathers (and some mothers). I've read medieval Christian authors and those in Catholic and Orthodox sides of the faith. And I still read those pertinent passaged that Brown and Keener address and see this: no, there is no catching away 7 years before His return. God's wrath does not equal man's wrath.Read this book with an open mind. It is not in scholarlese, but regular language any Christian (or other) reader can understand. Really be willing to be a Berean, not just say, "I was taught this, and that's how it is."I may wish pre-trib fit the Scriptures. How lovely to miss the mess. But it's not consistent with what I see in Holy Writ. Keener and Brown invite you to reassess, graciously, lovingly, interested only that we love each other and seek truth. There is no condemnation here. Just men of God who are in the tradition of other men and women of God through millenia.Maranatha! Come soon, Lord Jesus. Catch us up to be with you forever! Amen.

I had read excerpts from this book years ago and decided to order the book. It's a good read, exciting, some have suggested TOO exciting, ie exaggerated, but nice to have if you like antique books, old travel books, Pacific islands, etc. If you're really into this subject the book can be read fairly quickly.

I enjoyed it very much. It was written so long ago, 1922, things were so different in those times. Would like to have the other six of his books avaliable for my Kindle.

I partially read Osa Johnson's account, "I Married Adventure" which covered the same New Hebrides adventure her husband, Martin, writes about in "Cannibal-Land". What a difference in writing styles. Martin is a man of few words with one single mission--to prove that cannibalism was being practiced in the South Seas around 1919. Indeed it was, and budding photographer Martin captures those moments and more, which he shares in books, film footage and lectures throughout the world. His escapades are exciting--I only wish Martin had elaborated more. His simple writing style is very matter-of-fact, whereas Osa's overdramatic rendition included many unimportant details (usually about herself swooning or fainting). Something in-between would have made the perfect book.Regardless, these two certainly complemented each other. Martin was obsessed with getting savage/cannibal film footage, often putting everyones' lives in grave danger. Osa took it all in stride--one gets the sense (from her book)that she secretly yearned for a more domestic or stable lifestyle. Instead, Osa followed Martin everywhere and made the best of many hair-raising situations. Their writings accurately describe foreign cultures of a different era when white superiority dominated, providing interesting first-hand history lessons.

This is just a bad printing of screen grabs from the net. The photos are missing and two of the pages are missing text. I have since found out that this book can be downloaded in pdf form, for free with pictures, and better text, from the Open Library : [...]Amazon should not be selling these "books"There seem to be quite a few around and not always recognisable.

The book is padded with biographical CHAPTERS on multiple cast members -- material that has been already been covered in other books, often at greater length & depth. One hopes (in fact, demands) that when the topic is something that has received a lot of attention in a lot of books, that the new entry brings a fresh mind to the table with, at minimum, a new spin. Alas, not here. The above-referenced padding is a dead giveaway that this author has NOTHING new to say. In fact, he has nothing to to say. And, he does it poorly to boot. He thinks Dutch betrayed Angel. Anyone knows that the mother of the girl he killed ratted him out to Mapache. Dutch merely had to go along with it, having been been put on the spot. this is hardly the same as "betraying" Angel. (However, no doubt that some bookhouse lawyer will enthusiastically split hairs like any dumb damn fan boy.) On page 126 there is an indisputable factual error. The author says that Holden and Hepburn fell in love making SABRINA when both were already married. SABRINA was filmed in 1953. She married M. Ferrer in September 1954, just as the film was released. When I read that, I wanted to throw the book in the trash. I still might.

I had great hopes for this book, but it covers no new territory or has anything really insightful to say about Peckinpah'smasterwork. Really it is just a fan boy's love letter to the film. The author often knocks other films to enhance The Wild Bunch's reputation, which is unnecessary and often questionable. The author goes out of his way to dismiss the Western scores of Elmer Bernstein, especially for The Magnificent Seven but Jerry Fielding's excellent score for The Wild Bunch often uses the same orchestral tropes Bernstein does, and is in no way innovative or unusual.I was also troubled by his reference to Eli Wallach as a "Jew." Which I guess he means Wallach should not play a Mexicanlike his role in Leone's The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. I love The Wild Bunch and it is ill served by this stupid fawningbook.

This is a well written and thoroughly researched book. It goes far beyond merely analyzing the film The Wild Bunch and the career of its director, Sam Peckinpah. It also offers a partial biography of Peckinpah, biographical sketches of several of the other key people involved in the making of the movie, chunks of history about Hollywood and western films, contextual historical information about U.S.-Mexico border relations that influenced the plot of the film, etc. Reading the book is an educational experience. The only qualifier I will put on this positive review is that some might find the book too exhaustive. You have to care an awful lot about The Wild Bunch, Peckinpah, and the film industry from the era, to want to take in all of this information. The content could have been cut by a third or more, and the reader would still have come away with a deeper understanding of the topics mentioned in the subtitle. So it's just a matter of how much information you'd want from a book like this. But in any case, it's written very well and is highly informative.

I've loved The Wild Bunch since it first knocked my socks off on opening day in 1969, and I lost count of how many times since. If I find it on cable, I watch it. And it works every time, just like the first time.This book is totally worthy of this movie. What a helluva story!

This will not disappoint. Stratton misses nothing. If you don't read this one, you're just egg sucking southern trash, just like some animal, just another two bit redneck peckerwood.

This book was really helpful, not just when I was in Hawaii but for helping me to decide which islands to visit. We knew we wanted to go to two of them, but had no idea which ones to pick. But this guide clearly explains what each is like (and they're VERY different one to the next), and what's best to see and do on each.We ended up going to Oahu and the Big Island and really appreciated the rich discussions of culture in this guide, the logical layout, and the great suggestions! We had some great meals in recommended restaurants, found an EXCELLENT deal on a whale watching cruise through the book (we never would have found it otherwise) and took the advice to stay overnight in Volcano when we went to the National Park which made all the difference.It was clear that this book was written by locals, and we didn't feel overwhelmed by all of the extraneous info that you get in the Revealed guides (which were recommended to us and which we really didn't like. In fact, we went on a hiking trail they recommended and got yelled at because it was apparently on private land (something the book didn't reveal).

I purchased this Hawaii guide before going to the big island, I did not understand that it was for all the islands. There are only about 115 pages that cover the big island. So if you want a guide to the big island I do not recommend this guide. It weighs a few pounds and is overkill unless your planning on hitting all the islands on one trip.

I bought the kindle version of this book, thinking it would be so much lighter to carry around. I would NOT recommend it to others, however, as there are so many typos as to make the book practically unreadable. The hardest part to follow is that the names of places are missing a bunch of letters. I only know which beaches and towns they are discussing because I've been there before, but this would be incredibly confusing to any new traveler. Buy the physical book, or get a kindle edition of something else. Sorry folks!

I'm spoiled by the Rick Steves books for Europe. This is less user-friendly, but still a good buy.

This book was clutch on our Hawaiian adventure! Literally matched with all the recommendations we got from locals. I felt like it brought us to equal amounts of touristy stuff and hidden treasures. Can’t wait to go back to see the places we couldn’t check out.

It could just be me but the way this book is organized doesn't work. Instead of having an attraction and then the operators that go to it (i.e. snorkel trips with outfitters) they have sections on "Water Sports". It also doesn't give a ton of information on skill levels for hiking trails and other outdoor activities that are important for traveling either with kids or older adults. Overall I find other brands are more useful.

From quarks to complex molecules to planets, supernovae and black holes, to the idea of an infinite hierarchy of universes, all nested within one another.This book is far beyond an ordinary astronomy general interest read. Its contents incorporate genetics, ancient history, chemical biology, sociology, religion, human psychology and philosophy... Dr Sagan weaves these realms together in the context of the Cosmos, and raises intriguing questions about hypothetical alternate turn of events as well as where we (humankind) go from here. He pays homage to the brilliant minds whose work and courage has contributed to our current technical capabilities. From Erastosthenes' astute calculation of the Earth's circumference, to Kepler’s observations, to Einstein's special theory of relativity (and those in between: Huygens, Brahe, Newton, Champollion etc.), Sagan not only highlights their contribution, but discusses the societal circumstances that these individuals found themselves in. In doing so, he invokes a scrutiny of our current societal climate and behaviors. Are we doing our best to build and maintain a society that values the pursuit of knowledge over one that may eventually crumble under self-destructive greed? Are we investing an adequate amount of resources (both monetary and intellect) on constructive, self-preserving causes? Sagan goes as far as to compare government spendings on military weapons with scientific research funding, and demonstrates how far will have still to go before our loyalties are united not just within nation-states, but as a species of Planet Earth.Dr Sagan’s intrigues are not limited to Western ways of thinking. Instead, he pays deep respect to the cultures, achievements, and creation myths around the world - this was done through anecdotes from ancient Chinese, Egyptian, and Indian history as well as various tribal accounts. By doing so, he demonstrates that human intrigue has more in common than we may first assume. The early civilizations around the Earth, long before they knew of one another, independently devised theories about how we came to be based on their observations of the heavens. These were passed on to their descendants through subsequent generations ultimately resulting in what we may believe or know of today.I wonder what Dr Sagan would have thought about the state of the world today… recent election results, SpaceX, virtual reality, artificial intelligence/machine learning, Kepler missions, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, instability in the Middle East, the Higgs Boson… My guess is that he would simultaneously be alarmed that we are STILL arguing whether or not climate change is a problem, and amazed at our technological achievements with the internet and a legitimate goal to visit Mars. I would without a doubt recommend this book to everyone. A scientific degree is not necessary to fully appreciate the lesson and message that this book conveys. Dr Sagan’s literary style is not only comprehensible but so finely depicts his deep passion for the sciences that it is almost poetic. After having read the book, one could truly dwell on what we can do to unify ourselves as citizens of Planet Earth, with a mutual interest of survival, pursuit of interplanetary/interstellar travel and constant discovery of what our universe has to offer.

I really cannot comment on the menus because I tried it out on VLC (computer/no menus), and don't have a Blu-Ray player at the moment. However, I can say it is a noticeable improvement over the DVD version I have in my collection, but still very much standard definition. They cleaned up the video nicely and upscaled it to 1080i. As noted on Wikipedia, parts were shot of film and video tape to render the special effects of the time. I can't say this is a drastic improvement over the DVD, and I'd have a hard time recommending it to someone that already owns the DVD. This video lacks the fine details that can be made out on newer 1080p releases, and is a victim of its source material. However, if this isn't already in your collection, or if you must have a slightly better looking copy, it's worth a look.As the other reviewer mentioned, there are no subtitles, but unfortunately each episode also starts later than the DVD series thanks to a brief Cosmos studios introduction. Owning both copies, I would've just muxed the subtitles in from the DVD, before adding this to my Plex server. It's a shame, because the DVD title covered several different languages, and not everyone has perfect hearing or speaks English. That makes it impractical to download an SRT file (since those come from the DVD) to watch the subtitles, assuming one is hearing impaired, non-English speaking, or just want to keep the volume low (neighbors, house guest, angry wife etc.). Sound seemed on-par with the DVD, but I'm listening to 5.1 sound down-mixed to computer speaker's stereo.For anyone that's brand new to the Cosmos, this is the old and dated version (1980), not the new one. It's still well worth watching. Things Carl Sagan discusses are still relevant today. I always thought it was unfortunate that this was taken off Netflix prior to the release of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.In conclusion, I look forward to a day where I can binge watch this upscaled 1080i picture, and have currently added it to my Plex library. Others that look fondly upon the series, may want to add this copy to their collections, but remember it's still only as good as source it was recorded with. The best parts are the narration and story it tells. It's about optimism and hope, the perils we face, our past, our present and our future.UPDATE: For owners of both the DVD and Blu-Ray, or anyone downloading subtitles from a DVD source, I found a 5 sec. or 5000 ms. offset on the subtitles to work pretty well. I wish they were included, but the DVD version is pretty good and includes subtitles in multiple languages. I'd recommend that over this copy for my non-English and hard of hearing viewers that don't want to go through the technical hurdle of transcoding video/muxing subtitles in.
