A very comprehensive and entertaining collection of authors, story telling and thought provoking as well. I give my blessing for the inclusion of Rick Bass and I regret that you missed Russell Annabel, that Alaskan guide, hunter and story teller. He certainly deserves to be in this book. Annabel could really write action stories about the sourdough of the North, with a great deal of descriptive authenticity as well as humor. Whereas, Bass is more on the reflective, beauty in description side. I have read most of what each has written. They are kind of opposite ends of the spectrum in a sense, yet both area rogues in another sense. This collection is almost complete (without Annabel). I did have a hard time with the "olden days" section, which could have been omitted in favor of Annabel, as far as I am concerned. Every serious Hunter should read this collection. Although I didn't relate to 100% of the selections, there is a wealth to please every hunter or retired hunter!

The stories were good but it took some time to ready my way through this book.

My husband likes to read these hunting stories. He doesn't like to read novels, so it's good that this book isn't a complete story, but several stories.

If you enjoy reading the classic stories in Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, etc, this book is a must have.

I bought this for my 17 year old son whom loves the outdoors. He loved this book, thought it was very funny and fun to read!

This would have been a five star review except that a couple of stories were clunkers. I guess when you have as many different authors as this book has, you are bound not to be thrilled by a couple.

The editors have done an excellent job of collecting interesting hunting stories selected from the works of numerous authors. Some of the authors are quite well know, others much less so. This is a great bargin for 500+ pages of generally well written hunting stories. It is also a very good "pick up and put down" book for this busy time of year.

If you are a hunter you will like the stores in this book. It is something we can all relate to in one way or another.

He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.” The scriptures above previously stated pertains to the importance of receiving the Holy Eucharist for one's spiritual life. The living bread a.k.a the Holy Eucharist is the eternal food the Christ provided his apostles and disciples as well as to the members of the Catholic Church. According to Jesus,anyone who receives it receives Christ and will live forever.The author provides insight to this and it provides the reader additional knowledge on how this sacrament becomes a very enriching experience.That includes how the Eucharist can be received both sacramentally and spiritually. It teaches the big difference one is going to have instead of receiving it without going to Holy Confession.Overall,the book will provide the reader a better appreciation of the Holy Eucharist and the numerous things it can do to for the betterment of our relationship with God,Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

I read this book as part of a thematic treatment of how Catholics have viewed the Eucharist in the last 55 years, and how things have changed and how they have not. I first read Fr. Lovasik's catholics and the Eucharist, published in 1960. It is a valuable book, in that it is full of quotes from the Council of Trent and basically is a go-to reference one could use if one needed to cite dogmatic sources about the Eucharist.Vinny Flynn's book treats the same subject, but generally refers to documents promulgated after Vatican II as well as citations from St. Faustina's Diary. I especially valued however, how he uses references to Fatima, the Council of Trent, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Bible verses and quotations from the Saints to illustrate his points. He also is honest in admitting his shortcomings in understanding the Mass (he was talking about me, here also), what time is in relation to the Eucharist, and how our reception of the Eucharist is affected by our attitude. The secret dealing with sacramental and spiritual reception of Christ put a whole new dimension to how to use a spiritual communion to stay in His Presence.This was news to me! The Notes, Sources and References in the back also are god places for further reading.I am amazed that Fr. Lovasik seemed to be dealing with people who thought they were fulfilling God's commands by receiving the Eucharist monthly, and wanted them to receive at least weekly. Maybe the world was not in as bad a shape as it is now, after all, 1960 was when the Third Secret of Fatima was supposed to be revealed, and that didn't happen. However, Vinny's book is similar in that he pleads for more frequent reception of the Eucharist, not only to love God more, but to participate in His Life as well as to hunger for more of It. I think it succeeds in helping us be more excited about the Mass, God's plan for us and His Life He wants us to share with us, as well as inspiring us to share with others.

I take this little book with me everytime I go to mass. It completely changed my approach to the Eucharist. Now when I attend mass I close my eyes and imagine I am in the Throne room of Heaven surrounded by the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and all the saints and angels in heaven as I receive the Lord. For me after reading this book the Eucharist is alive.

I'm not sure what I expected, but the chapters sort of dragged on, so I looked at the back pages, thrilled to find a 1-3 sentence summary of each chapter. None of the content was news to me. However, the friend of mine who recommended this book thought it very inspiring and she loved it. It can be very useful depending on how far you have gotten in your faith. I'd recommend it to a beginner or recent convert to Catholicism.

7 Secrets of the Eucharist takes your breath away. I'm a new Catholic, (senior lady) and it was an excellent book for me. I wish I had read it at the beginning of my journey My parish is holding a class and discussing this book. We are a group of cradle Catholics, converts of 50 years and new Catholics like myself.
