Undeniable: How Biology Confirms Our Intuition That Life Is Designed

Review

“From childhood everyone directly grasps that life is designed - until they’re talked out of it by a culture saturated with materialism. Using the latest science, molecular biologist Douglas Axe shows why you don’t have to be an expert to trust your firm knowledge of the wonderful design of life.” (Michael J. Behe, author of Darwin's Black Box)“Undeniable is an important addition to the debate on the origins of life. It provides a middle way between religious and scientific explanations of how life began. A must-read for everyone who is interested in the origins of our universe.” (The Washington Book Review)“Great scientists are as much artists as scientists. Enchanted by the beauty of the world, they see through ideologies to facts. In this engaging book, Axe uses ‘common science’ to consider the biggest mystery: To what or to whom do we owe our existence? I greatly enjoyed it.” (Dean Koontz, New York Times bestselling author)“Douglas Axe’s Undeniable is bold, insightful and world-changing. It’s also a joy to read. I recommend it highly!” (Phillip E. Johnson, Professor Emeritus of Law at U. C. Berkeley and author of Darwin on Trial)“Highly rigorous yet passionate, lyrical, forthright, refreshingly brief and accessible, Undeniable is an urgently needed addition to the library of books on intelligent design.” (Evolution News)“In Undeniable we are privy to a first-hand account of the evidence for intelligence and the painful professional cost of swimming against the flow of accepted but un-proven truth. A must-read.” (Gerald Schroeder, author of The Science of God and God According to God)“Microbiologist Douglas Axe makes a case for intelligent design over and against the dominant secular materialism that pervades the scientific community. Whether one is an atheist, agnostic, or a theist, Undeniable adds another exciting voice to a lively debate.” (Reading Religion, A Publication of the American Academy of Religion)“Probably the most engaging book I have read in the past ten years, because of Dr. Axe’s clear explanations and profound insights. This is an important book, perhaps the best one in existence, for anyone who takes origins questions seriously, whatever their perspective.” (Chuck Garner, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Baylor University)“Axe has carefully crafted a case that strongly favors our human intuition that life was designed, demonstrating why unguided evolution is improbable in the extreme. This book’s power to convince surpasses that of everything I’ve read on origins science in my sixty-five years as an engineer, biophysicist, and physiologist.” (Mark C. Biedebach, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Biological Sciences, California State University, Long Beach)“Undeniable makes a compelling case by a molecular biologist that living organisms were designed by an intelligent agent, i.e. God. A decisive blow at the foundations of the materialistic explanations of the origin and diversity of life’s forms that have dominated biology for 200 years.” (Donald Ewert, PhD, Director of Research at the Hough Ear Institute and Former Wistar Institute Research Scientist)

From the Back Cover

“To what or to whom do we owe our existence? This has to be the starting point for people who take life seriously—whether scientists or not. We cannot rest without the answer because absolutely everything of importance is riding on it.”—from UndeniableThroughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the “design intuition”—the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need knowledge to accomplish can be accomplished only by someone who has that knowledge. For the ingenious task of inventing life, this knower can only be God.Starting with the hallowed halls of academic science, Axe dismantles the widespread belief that Darwin’s theory of evolution is indisputably true, showing instead that a gaping hole has been at its center from the beginning. He then explains in plain English the science that proves our design intuition scientifically valid. Lastly, he uses every-day experience to empower ordinary people to defend their design intuition, giving them the confidence and courage to explain why it must be true and the vision to imagine what biology will become when people stand up for this truth.Armed with that confidence, readers will affirm what once seemed obvious to all of us—that living creatures, from single-celled cyanobacteria to orca whales and human beings, are brilliantly conceived, utterly beyond the reach of accident. Our intuition was right all along.

A very clear-headed, understandable perspective on how we all participate in real science. Douglas Axe blends intellectual substance with common sense and gives us a brand new understanding of life and our place in it, even as children. He uses verifiable scientific data held up against verifiable mathematics and proves without doubt that Darwinism collapses under basic facts. I appreciate his challenge to the science community's stubborn bias to cling to materialism. It's time to teach students to follow real data and not (Atheist) doctrine.

Fantastic explanation of the irrefutable nature of the intelligent design hypothesis and the inability of unguided evolutionary processes to produce new life forms.

Undeniable: How Biology Confirms Our Intuition That Life Is Designed, begins by relating a story that illustrates a theme of the book, namely social pressure is a major factor influencing science. He tells of a graduate class exam question at Caltech that asked “Which of the biological macromolecules is apt to be the first living molecule?” Axe knew where this question was going, and answered it in the way the professor wanted, then added he did not believe that any molecule could be the first form of life. For his opinion, he had points deducted, noting that “we as students were expected not only to know current thinking in biology but also to accepted it without resistance.” Axe added that “I had learned my lesson. The stream of scientific consensus flows with an almost irresistible current” This is indoctrination, not education. Professors should be challenging students to evaluate and reason about issues, not just mindlessly repeat what they are told. And this happened at one of the most elite colleges in the world! Axe then recounts meeting a distinguished scientist, a former friend, in Cambridge University, England, where he was a research scientist from 1990 to 2002. Their conflicting views on origins fractured their formerly good relationship. During this chance meeting, Axe noted, we settled for something less then closure. At least Axe tried to reaffirm their friendship even if his former friend did not. After relating other events, Axe concluded that the issue of origins depends less on facts than it does on social pressure. The rest of the book reviewed these facts, many of which are well documented in the scientific literature.

More of a philosophical and logical look at the failed implications of Darwinism. It's different than other ID discussions in biology and should be a core study for the realists among us. Well done.....

I can see why this is a best-seller. The author leads the reader step by step to a profound and inevitable appreciation that organic functional systems (what Michael Behe calls "irreducible complexity" and William Dembski and Stephen Meyer call "specified complexity") are so astronomically improbable that it is physically impossible for them to have arisen in the absence of intelligent design. There is no way that naturalistic evolution (neo-Darwinism) can survive this juggernaut of logic, if its proponents were even sufficiently open-minded to consider the irrefutable arguments. Of course, they won't, because they have careers devoted to maintaining the dictatorial status quo of philosophical materialism. It is a sham that something hardly even counting as a valid scientific theory (supported with no solid empirical evidence beyond imaginary speculation) has been imposed on school students for decades, ensuring the perpetuation of an indoctrinated populace, shorn of confidence in its native ability to reason logically with what the author labels as scientific common sense.

My title describes how the compelling and complete arguments have affirmed my re-acquired conviction that my instincts to question the validity of a 19th century romantic theory that continues to blind and hobble serious scientific enlightenment, are in fact correct. Ironically, so many worthy thinkers must feel as Galileo did - oppressed and silenced by a conspiracy of thought control and truth prevention on a scale dwarfing that of North Korea.I'd call this required reading for devotees of and searchers for truth. If you want fair and balanced guide through the minefield of Darwin doubt, this is it.This will be the first book I read multiple times so I can fully grasp some the intellectually challenging trains of thought.Thank you for bringing this landmark book into the light.

One of the best books explaning why evolution doens't work and therefore never have taken place. Readable for everybody without a background in science. Axe shows how the mechanisms which are supposed to drive evolution are not there, and how meaningless Darwins theory has become in light of the last 50 years of DNA and protein research. Douglas Axe is a brilliant biochemist who has done the real investigative work in the lab, in order to determine if the probabalistic resources needed for the evolutionary process exist. His conclusion after many years of research is clear, evolution can not work on a biochemical level. All evidence points toward intelligent design.

This book, like the book by Perry Marshall, Evolution 2.0, is a wonderfully insightful analysis of a view of Evolution Theory that makes me realize that there is more to species development than the "New Synthesis" model. I was taught the New Synthesis in High School and college and thought at the time that there seemed to be a lot of issues unanswered. And now that the "Third Wave" led by Denis Noble have made their presence known, along with the writings of Axe and others, we now have even more than intuition to think that a LOT more is involved than what were were told years ago...that random mutation along with natural selection could give us the complexity we have in the natural world.
