Having traveled 99 , and living just off it for years (make that decades), this is a great book of nostalgia!
Order several for gifts. Found the picture of the Druve-in-theater here in our town that is still open in the Spring and Summer.
Wonderful book of Portland history and pictures of places I remember as a child. Love the Bomber gas station pictures.
This is an excellent book telling about the history of Oregon's Highway 99. Some of the interesting information that the book mentions is as follows; Along 6th and 7th Avenues were Eugene's motel row. South of Canyonville is Wolf Creek, home to Oregon's oldest operating hotel, the Wolf Creek Tavern which had many famous folks such as Clark Gable and Carole Lombard being past visitors to it. Roseburg has long been a timber industry center of Oregon. Grants Pass has had an arch sign for nearly 100 years saying: "It's the climate." Grants Pass had a 2010 population of nearly 35,000. The Lithia Hotel in Ashland was constructed in 1925 and for many years it was the tallest building between Portland and San Francisco. The Interstate Bridge spanning the Columbia River between Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR opened to vehicles in 1917. Lew's Burgers Drive In has been a popular Southeast Portland fixture since 1957 when Lew and Betty Johnson opened it up.
