About the Author
Flavius Josphus (c. A.D. 37-100) was born to an aristocratic Jewish family, served as a priest, and later became the commander of Jewish forces in Galilee following the revolt against Rome that began A.D. 66. Captured by the Romans, Josephus spent his later life in Rome under the patronage of the Roman emperors where he composed his history of the Jewish people and his account of the Jewish war that led to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in A.D. 70.

Great book. This abridged version gets right to the heart of what you are looking for. Maier has done a good job. Josephus gets a little wordy at times. Maier does not leave out any pertinent information and where something has been omitted he informs the reader. This book is worth the price for the story of the fall of Jerusalem alone.
If you are new to the Bible, this is a good read to help you get more acquainted with the, Good Book. Easy read and very informative. I would suggest this book to anyone and from the company I ordered from. Book was delivered as promised and as described.
I use Josephus in my studies and quote him in my formal papers, however his style is pretty thick reading. Maier created a useful paraphrase with dates & references pointing to the original. Very useful for serious students.
somewhat difficult to read because so many characters had the same name. And most of the history was written in almost outline form so that so many of the wars and battles seemed to blend together in my mind. The easiest part came at the end with Titus battling Jerusalem.
I first tried to read Josephus by itself and found that it was too much. Dr. Maier has condensed a voluminous amount of information into a very readable book.
An easy read, if you like history. Well written translation, and as the intro explains, a condensation of many volumes of Josephus' work.
I don't know whether the translator or Josephus himself was the clear and concise recorder of history, but this is an amazingly easy to read history as Josephus experienced it.
It is exactly as described, but I thought it was the WHOLE book. I will keep it and read it, but I'll buy the unabridged version as soon as I can.
