I'm always hesitant when an author I love develops new characters. Will I like them? Will they be as good as the ones I've grown to know and love? A long time fan of the Justice series and DI Sally Parker series, I wondered if another female DI series could really grab me. Yes, it could--and it did.This story is heart-wrenching in so many ways. I've now reached the age of retirement, or close there to. There was a time I felt I could fend off anyone and hold my own, but now I realize that at my present age it would be impossible. What kind of horrendous monster targets sweet, loving, older couples in a quiet community? What possible motive could have have for killing them? And why did he kidnap a couple's daughter? What devious plans could he have for her?DI Sara Ramsey and her witty partner, Carla, search for the answers to those questions as Sara fights her own internal battle of another crime that changed her life forever. She moved to Hereford to get away from the violence, and now had to wonder--coincidence, or did violence follow her here?An excellent crime thriller sprinkled with insight into the mind of the killer. I love the mixture of professional and family and look forward to a long run with DI Sara Ramsey and her team.Highly recommended!
A new police procedural, crime, and murder mystery from “across the pondâ€! A very disturbing killer, we learn his thoughts, but don’t know his name. Detective Inspector Sara Ramsey moves from Liverpool to a smaller county to get away from murder scenes like this. Her partner is Detective Sergeant Carla Jameson. Why would someone want to murder the elderly?The English culture is well described with all sorts of interesting verbiage running through the story. What’s a “whinge†or “lurgiesâ€? The word “patch†has a different use, but we all know what “arse†and “cheeky†mean. 😚 No cliffhanger, but the future for the D.I. Is set up at the end, and one mystery remains unsolved! An engaging read.
One of the worst books I've read on Kindle. The main person, a DI with the British police, was clueless and naïve. If anyone has ever read a Nancy Drew book, this is the equivalent. I don't think the author knows much about police procedure. It felt more like I was reading about some high school girls or sorority sisters. Sounds harsh, but after reading police and mystery books for about 15 years, this was so disappointing. And it was odd that there were no men of importance in this story. I'm female and enjoy reading about both women and men in a story. Anyway, I was looking for a new author, but this definitely didn't fit the bill.
This is book 1 in a new series by M.A. Comley, author of British Poilice mystery/Suspense series. I love the new cast of characters and the Mystery is just twisted and twisty enough to satisfy my grit and gore needs. I believe I’ll be joining the list of fans for the new series. Definitely a must read series. It’s hard to find a first book that doesn’t have so much background included the story bogs down, this one doesn’t. A great beginning for a must-read series.
An excessive level of gore for a simplistic plot.i gave this three reluctantly but I am conscious that the style of writing is simply not to my taste as I find it overly descriptive of mundanities and lacking a flow to conversations. Coupled with a cast of characters from the school of "oh my gosh how terrible and just wait until i get my hands on the evil perpetrator" all of which are very samey this fails for me.I skim read the last half and i won't be following this author. If pushed for a recommendation I'd say don't bother even at the cheap price.
This book is very entertaining and the story moves along quite quickly. A police squad works together to solve a murder case. Along the way we learn about the lives of the various members of the squad.
This was one of the best good !! I absolutely love the characters and the suspense of the story kept me absolutely captivated the entire story. I litterly cannot wait to start the next book in Sara's series. Excellent work M A Comley !!!!!!
This rating is unusual for me regarding this author. Disappointing sequence of dawdling movement. Basically because of senseless murders, almost unbelievable in their progression. The plot and characters just drag until the end.
